FLRC Challenge 2022: Jim Schug Trail

HomeSwagCoursesPrizesTimingRules | 100K Ultra Challenge

The 8.0-mile Jim Schug Trail course is another popular former railroad bed that offers 4 miles of out-and-back running on a soft surface. After starting in downtown Dryden, you’ll run through wetlands and past Dryden Lake.

Post-run options for eating abound in Dryden, starting with The Station Creamery ice cream spot just across Main Street from the start/finish. The Dryden Hotel is a popular runner eating spot as well, and further into the village, you’ll find Pizza and Bones, Village Taqueria and Grill, and Golden City. Further out toward Cortland, you’ll come across Carrozza Pizza Company, and if you’re driving back into Ithaca in the evening, don’t miss Hopshire Farm and Brewery, Brewer’s Cafe & Taproom, and Antlers Restaurant.

Start near the butterfly bench next to Agway on Route 13/Main Street in Dryden. There’s plenty of street parking; beware that Agway closes its lot at night.

Turn-by-turn RunGo directions are available (mostly to warn you about road crossings); you can view them online and download them to the RunGo app on your smartphone (iOS or Android) or Apple Watch. This is the easiest course of the Challenge this year, but here’s a course map:

  • Starting at the butterfly bench by Agway, run down the Jim Schug Trail all the way to the turnaround sign at Willow Crossing Road before turning around and retracing your steps.
  • There are several road crossings, including at the busy Route 38, so be careful of cars when crossing!
